Modern life with all its gadgets and devices designed to help us and make our lives easier sometimes seems to overwhelm us even more. Depression, panic attacks and stress are the symptoms of the modern life for more and more people. How often do we feel frustrated, nervous, tense and anxious and daily routine seems unbearable? There is nothing bad about not being able to cope with absolutely everything - we are humans, not machines and our nature requires that sometimes we just step back and relax for a while.
It is important to remember not to try and hold everything in, it may seem that if you are in control when you can hide your anger, frustration or irritation, but this way is not the best option. It is like piling up childrens blocks - in the beginning your tower seems secure and solid, but the taller it becomes, the wobblier it is and eventually it will crash down. Do not bottle up your feelings, let them out when it is possible (not at work or another public place though!), talk to somebody about it, it is always a great relief to know that someone understands you and knows exactly how you feel. You will also be able to get some valuable advice or just get distracted from negative thoughts and emotions. Another powerful
panic relief tool that positive communication brings is laughter. A good thing about laughing is that apart from improving your mood it also improves the way you feel: it distracts you from physical pain.
Positive affirmations are also a great technique in the battle against anxiety and stress. Affirmations help our mind develop positive attitude towards life. Here is an example of a positive affirmation for a shy, introvert person: "I am a confident, positive, communicative person". The main thing about working with affirmations is believing. No use to just automatically utter the words; value and believe what you are saying. If you have never deal with this method before, you might find it silly in the beginning but so many people benefited from it and if you are serious about it, it will work for you too.
Your way of lifestyle is certainly contributing a lot into your well being. Some foods can make you feel better, e.g. chocolate and strawberries, others will aggravate your condition. Alcohol can cheer you up for some time, and you do feel relaxed, but after the fun evaporates you may be left with more misery or anxiety than before you started. It is known to cheer one up but it also makes a person feel a lot worse after sobering up. Caffeine is similar, you can be taking it to help you stay concentrated but if the dosage is too high, you will be left feeling anxious and tense.
